Poppy Willow-Kent
Access to HE Diploma (Performing Arts and Theatre Arts) Graduate
It's really changed my life and for the better. I've had so many amazing opportunities and experiences, and I have been able to better myself academically and also as a person because of this course.
Poppy's story
I studied the QAA Access to HE Diploma in Performing Arts and Theatre Arts at the National Youth Theatre. I started the Access Diploma in October 2021 and completed it in July 2022.
I discovered the Diploma kind of by chance, actually. When I found the course, I was so excited because I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do.
What was important for me was a Diploma that would utilise my interests and skills. I'm a very creative person; I've always been into acting and performing arts. When I was looking at potential courses in filmmaking for higher education, I looked at the practicality. It was very important for me to study a hands-on course where I learned camera techniques, lighting techniques, and techniques needed to work in the film industry.
My advice to anyone who is considering an Access to HE course but doesn't know which subject to pursue is to consider the following:
- which jobs you would like to do
- your interests, hobbies and passions
- what are your skills?
Doing the Access Diploma has changed my life for the better. I've had so many amazing opportunities and experiences, and because of this course, I have been able to better myself academically and as a person.
