On 25 September 2020, we published the arrangements for the award and assessment of the Access to HE Diploma 2020-21, which explains how we will ensure that quality, standards and student outcomes will be maintained for Diplomas awarded this year.
We published an overview statement for students, as well as a more detailed guidance document which is available below.
Webinar on arrangements for the award and assessment of the Access to HE Diploma 2020-21
In order to support you, we are offering a series of webinars where you can discuss with QAA officers the arrangements for the Award of the Access to HE Diploma this year. Visit our event page for full details.
If you are unable to attend, a recording of the webinar will be published here next week.
Students completing the Access to HE Diploma before 31 July 2020
We are all focused on making sure students are not disadvantaged by these unprecedented times. This includes allowing for an appeal of calculated grades, where appropriate. Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) have collaborated to produce a process specifically to address the appeal of calculated grades.
If you were a student that was due to complete their Access to HE Diploma by 31 July 2020 and feel your calculated grades did not reflect your expected performance, we recommend that you read the appeals process information booklet and speak to your AVA. Appeals will be dealt with by the Access Validating Agency that validates your Diploma.
In addition, if you do not believe the correct process of assessment for the award of the Access to HE Diploma has been followed in your case, you should discuss this with your AVA.
You can find AVA contact details on the AVA profile pages on our website.
Students who do not feel that their estimated grades reflect their expected performance also have the option to choose to sit their assessments at the earliest reasonable opportunity (when all providers are operating normally).
The following document gives information on sitting assessments and is relevant to students who received calculated grades from 20 March 2020 and were awarded a QAA-recognised Access to HE Diploma in July 2020.
Students should contact their provider to register to sit assessments.
