QAA is working closely with the Department for Education (DfE), Ofqual and other organisations to produce a clear, fair and consistent approach to assessment for the award of the Access to HE Diploma.
Access to HE students can find all the latest information in this section. These pages will be updated regularly with the latest updates. Students can also refer to our frequently asked questions.
On 3 April 2020, we published next steps for Access to HE students, relating to how students will be assessed or continue their learning in the current uncertain environment.
Students completing the Access to HE Diploma before 31 July 2020
In our update on 3 April 2020 (available below), we announced that students who planned to complete their Access to HE course by 31 July 2020 would now receive calculated grades for all remaining assessments with submission dates after 20 March 2020.
We have been working with Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) and course providers to ensure the principles being used for the assessment of calculated grades are fair and robust.
The document below details information on what we are doing to provide you with grades. This document is also available in Welsh.
Webinar on calculating grades
In order to support you, we are offering a series of webinars where QAA officers can discuss with you how grades will be calculated and answer any questions you may have. Visit our event page for full details.
If you are unable to attend, a recording of the webinar is published here:
We are all focused on making sure students are not disadvantaged by these unprecedented times. This includes allowing for an appeal of calculated grades, where appropriate. Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) have collaborated to produce a process specifically to address the appeal of calculated grades.
If you are a student that was due to complete their Access to HE Diploma by 31 July 2020 and feel your calculated grades do not reflect your expected performance, we recommend that you read the appeals process information booklet and speak to your AVA. Appeals will be dealt with by the Access Validating Agency that validates your Diploma.
In addition, if you do not believe the correct process of assessment for the award of the Access to HE Diploma has been followed in your case, you should discuss this with your AVA.
You can find AVA contact details on the AVA profile pages on our website.
