- More students were registered on QAA -recognised Access to HE programmes
in 2000-01 (38,684)than in 1999-2000 (37,726)
Access certificates
- Fewer students were awarded Access to HE certificates in 2000-02
(16,404) than in 1999-2000 (17,706)
Access HE entrants
- More students with an Access qualification started an undergraduate
course in HE in 2000 (13,420) than in 1999 (12,330).
UCAS applicants
- There was adecrease in the number of Access students who applied
to and were accepted to HE through UCAS in 2000-01 (appl: 16139; acc:
11,070) than in 1999-2000 (appl: 17,057: acc: 11,402).
NMAS applicants
- More Access students applied through NMAS and were accepted on to
nursign courses in 2000 (1,970) than in 1999 (1,698)
Subjects of study
- 2000-01 showed a further increase in the number of QAA-recognised
Access to HE programmes with designated progression routes to HE courses
in nursing and education. There has been a decline in the number of
humanities programmes
Ethnic minorities
- The proportion of Access students from black ethnic groups inceased
to 13.4% in 2000-01 (from 10.4% in 1999-2000)*.
- The proportion of other non-white Access students increased to 12.7%
in 2000-01 (from 8.2% in 1999-2000)*.
