Access to HE Quality Development Network Event

Date: Thursday 30 April 2015

This year's Access to HE annual quality development event 'From Adult learner to academic: supporting the learning development of the Access to HE student' was held at Leeds Beckett University.

The programme focused on themes of significance to students as they prepare for studying in higher education, and therefore areas of development which tutors must incorporate into their learning, teaching and assessment strategies:

  • digital literacy
  • understanding primary research (including research ethics)
  • academic integrity (and in particular preventing plagiarism)
  • the fourth theme looks at how tutors can develop high quality assignments that are well understood by students while meeting the design requirements of QAA and AVAs.

Particpants particularly welcomed the balance of speakers and workshops. Feedback included:

  • nice balance between practical “hands on” topics and some overview input from speakers
  • new to Access to HE so really good to listen and meet people
  • very well organised, but relaxed
  • the event has been a valuable opportunity to share experience.
