About Access to Higher Education

Access to HE courses are designed for people who want to take a university level course, but who didn’t gain the qualifications they needed while at school. Courses are available at colleges across England and Wales, in a wide range of subjects.

The main focus of each Access to HE Diploma is indicated in the Diploma title, such as Access to HE Diploma (Nursing). Each Diploma includes units in several different subjects, and taken together these prepare students for the study of a particular subject at degree level.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) recognises and regulates Access to HE courses. This website includes the complete list of courses that have been recognised by QAA.
